You might have noticed a few changes around here. A new slim look (Michael says I redesign more than I write) and with it a different language and a few new rules.
First, the language. I switched to english (american english, to be specific). Why? Because I’ve been reading english since I was twelve. Because, after eighteen, barely any book I’ve picked up has been in swedish. Because I read, write and sometimes think in english. I’m not trying to show off, really. For reasons that will become apparent a few paragraphs ahead, I’m making the switch indefinetly, eh, indefinitely.
Second, the look. What is the most important thing? Answer: the latest post. Bio, links and all that other crap, put it at the bottom of the page. If a visitor wants to read what I have to say, he’ll find everything else at the end of the post.
What I’ve been writing about on my site for the last two years has been fun, but I think more fun for me than anyone else. Sometimes a post has been about a film I saw, some books I’ve read or a dinner I’ve had with my family.
There hasn’t been much focus, though. I’ve been drifting around without any real point or purpose. You could call my site “eclectic”, but to me that spells b-o-r-i-n-g.
I sat down the other day and started thinking what I should be focusing on. It could be family, but I’m not that interested in writing about our daily life—I don’t live in interesting times, as the Chinese say. I’ve been working for two years as a web producer, and have been designing my own sites far longer than that, but do we really need another tech-blog? And although I am interested in the field, I’m not a Dan Cederholm, a Jeffrey Veen or even a Jacob Nielsen. So, no webbie-techie site for Peter.
Then it came to me. Writing. It’s something I’ve been doing since I was a kid. Hey, It is something that makes me feel like a kid! It is an urge, a passion, an unstoppable force of nature. I couldn’t turn it off even if I wanted to. Yeah, a site about writing, about me writing and rewriting and rewriting… That’s not to bad.
So, from now on (‘til the next redesign, ha ha) fraggelpjotten.com is about writing, with a big, capital motherfucking double U. It’s about writing comics, because that’s what I want to do for a living, it’s about writing stories, because I want to do that too. It’s about the biz, because people love to read about work, god knows why. It’s about anxieties, fears, hopes and dreams, the stuff that all Creating is made of.
There it is: a fresh, different language, spiffy new look and new rules. Enjoy.
